CANCELLED – Auto X Type II – Mad Cow 1 & 2 – Cow Palace
March 28 @ 8:00 am - March 29 @ 5:00 pm PDT$50 – $60
Due to COVID-19 concerns, we are cancelling SCC’s March 28-29 autocrosses. We hope to reschedule later this year, but don’t have a new date yet. Accordingly, we will be refunding everybody’s money in the next few days.
Our next planned events are on July 25-26, 4 months from now. Registration is not open yet. Hopefully, the situation will be improved by then. We will be assessing whether or not to proceed with those events as we get closer.
OK, our March AX events (#1 and #2) are now firm.
On Sat-Sun, March 28-29, Santa Clara Corvettes is hosting autocrosses at the Cow Palace in Daly City. Our events are open to all cars, and we are inviting all autocross enthusiasts to come out and enjoy a fun course at a great venue. Five runs per driver plus a good chance of fun runs on Saturday. The cost is $50 for Western States Corvette Council (WSCC) members and $60 for non-members.
Set-up will occur Saturday morning from 7 – 9 AM, and all help is appreciated. Competition wraps up ~ 4PM each day. (We usually hold fun runs on Saturdays, after the competition.)
Registration will be open from 8 AM until noon on Saturday. There will be 2 run groups in the AM, and 2 more in the PM. Working during one run group is mandatory for all drivers. You can run and work in the AM and then leave. Or show up ~ 11 and run and work in the PM. Or you can pay twice and run and work in both the AM and PM.
On Sunday, with lower registration, we have been closing registration earlier and running just two or three run groups. This has worked well at Marina, with a nasty commute home on Sunday afternoons, but this shouldn’t be an issue at the Cow Palace. Therefore, we will open it for 4 run groups on Sunday as well, but on-site registration will close early — 10 AM. If registration is still low, we may consolidate to fewer run groups. In order to give us flexibility, we ask that you arrive by 9 AM on Sunday.
You may pre-register on-line at MotorsportReg.com. (Search for Santa Clara Corvettes.) Registration on-line will open by Feb 1. This makes check-in at the event a breeze, and you have a good chance of selecting your run group ahead of time. You’ll still have to sign the waiver, but everything else should be ready to go. We have a generous cancellation policy, up to two days before the event, so you can get your money back if plans change. Or you may register on site. We cap the morning run groups at 25, but we do NOT have a max size for the PM run groups. If you show up and register by noon, we’ll let you run.
Have a 1 to 4-digit number, 8” high, on both sides of your car. Painter’s tape works well if you don’t have custom numbers (tape should be available at registration). If you register on-line, you must select a car number, and duplicates with other registered cars are not allowed. Most folks have reserved a permanent number. If you’re new, or if you register on site, you may have to pick one not already taken.
You must have a 2005 or newer Snell or DOT-approved automotive helmet to run (loaners are available). (Motorcycle helmets not allowed.)
There will be a self-tech form for your car that you will need to fill out and sign. If you want to review it ahead of time so that you or a mechanic can check out your car, see the Forms on the website. An on-site inspector will also check a few basic things on your car while it’s on grid. One basic rule – get all the loose stuff out of your car, so that it doesn’t move around and distract you while you’re driving.
We are working with the Cow Palace to have a food service open during the lunch hours. Otherwise bring a lunch or partake of an off-site venue like McDonalds.
Here’s how it works. . . show up the morning of the event. Clean out your car, walk the course, and attend the drivers’ meeting. The course is laid out using orange traffic cones. You drive one-at-a-time. Once on course, drive it like you stole it.
